The Jebel Nafusa is a mountainous chain that is extended to south of Tripoli and it reaches the south of the Tunisia to west. The most interesting zone is that inclusive between Gharian, the biggest city of the Jebel and Nalut, to west, next to the border of Tunisia. The Jebel raises up to 900 meters altitude and offers very fascinating landscapes. The climate is very different in comparison to the lowland; in summer it is more fresh decidedly and in winter it is not rare that snows.
It is a traditionally Berber zone and the inhabitants besides the Arabic, often speak the Mazir; this is one of the few zones of Libya in which the Berber language and culture still flourish. In the whole Jebel there are many examples of troglodytic Berber architecture, represented by the constructions realized inside the earth and of the rocks, even if the still lived houses are very few. In some villages they are still solid barns the Qasrs, that are imposing structures constituted by different rooms made with mud bricks and stacked one above the other.
